jason gets it: the attention magnetism is broken. collecting so-called friends and virtual fortune cookies has turned into a full-time job in hope of living in a better tomorrow just like the blogosphere blogged about blogging years ago (or still does). seriously, the web can’t keep continuing down this road. but know what? we’ve already got the best social network out there, it’s called the internet and the tools are all there: authentication/profiles | semantics | relations | messaging | attention | syndication. what we need on top is an open, autonomous and distributed meta layer that glues it all together and not another walled garden platform. building workarounds in highly proprietary environments is just a cul-de-sac, not only for the user but for the net culture as a whole.
